Listen Up! Odyssey Award Winners

I’m lucky enough to have the opportunity to head to Orlando on Thursday for the American Library Association Conference. I have been going over the schedule to figure out an itinerary for myself. The Odyssey Award Presentation will take place on Monday and I am now kicking myself for cutting my trip short as I will unfortunately miss this event that so aligns with my reading experiences. The Odyssey Award is given to the producer of the best audiobook produced for children and/or young adults.

Anytime I have ever said to someone that I am a Librarian their first response is always “you must read alot”. The truth is working full time doesn’t leave much time for reading. Librarians do not read behind their desk as may be believed. Now as the mother of a toddler with another on the way reading is not on the top of my list of things to do, unfortunately. However, I do listen to books. A lot! Walking to my part-time job, folding laundry, pushing the stroller with a sleeping babe, and the evenings where my wonderful husband allows me to have some time to take a walk on my own are made even better by a good audiobook.

My first experience with audiobooks was Jim Dale’s reading of the Harry Potter Series. I’m not ashamed to say that had you been in my town you may have seen me walking down the street so wrapped up in the story that I may have been waving a wand and speaking incantations. I’m a nerd! Anyways, a story is brought to life through the production of an audiobook and I am always looking for my next download.

New or not to audiobooks, give these titles a shot!
