Award of the Week: E.B. White Read-Aloud Award

The E.B. White Read-Aloud Award, established in 2004, honors books that reflect the universal read aloud standards that were created by the work of the author E.B. White in his classic books for children: Charlotte’s Web, Stuart Little, and The Trumpet of the Swan. In the first two years of the award, a single book was selected. In 2006, in recognition of the fact that reading aloud is a pleasure at any age, the award was expanded into two categories: Picture Books, and Older Readers. Books are nominated for their universal appeal as “terrific” books to read aloud.

2018
	The Wolf, The Duck, & The Mouse By: Mac Barnett Illustrated by: Jon Klassen When a mouse is swallowed by a wolf, he finds out he isn’t the only animal the wolf has swallowed.
2017
	Du Iz Tak By: Carson Ellis Two damselflies observe a tiny green sprout and wonder what it is. Insects apparently have their own language, which they speak as author-illustrator Ellis takes readers on a journey through the seasons from an insect’s perspective.

2018
	Wishtree By: Katherine Applegate An old red oak tree tells how he and his crow friend, Bongo, help their human neighbors get along after a threat against an immigrant family is carved into the tree’s trunk.
2017
	The Girl Who Drank the Moon By: Kelly Regan Barnhill An epic fantasy about a young girl raised by a witch, a swamp monster, and a Perfectly Tiny Dragon, who must unlock the powerful magic buried deep inside her.
