Being the largest children’s and YA literature database of full-text professional reviews, national and international awards, educational tools, and book details takes time, perseverance, and guts. Yes, I said it- guts! It’s been a busy summer and fall for the CLCD staff as we have been enhancing, refining, and extending the reach of our signature database, CLCD Enterprise. Enterprise has always encompassed the span of children’s and YA publishing and grows each year just as much as children’s and YA publishing grows. It takes guts to tackle such a large industry as book publishing but sharing information about literature is our passion. We take our role as providers of children’s and YA literature information very seriously. So seriously, that we continuously look for ways to provide literature information uniquely, whether that is providing more interviews of new and seasoned authors and illustrators, delivering creative book lists for all ages, or using AI to make research easier. This fall, we are excited to introduce our latest Enterprise upgrade to Enterprise 6.0. It has all of the same features you currently love, with ways to improve your search capabilities through a new Award Search feature, updated interface, and more personalization options. By using the latest technology, Enterprise 6.0 makes the path to finding information about children’s and YA literature even simpler.

Providing book details for Enterprise 6.0 means keeping a pulse on children’s and YA literature. In addition to providing book information in Enterprise 6.0, you will often see us use our social media pages to focus on author and illustrator birthdays, connect quality books with special days and themed months, retweet book birthdays, and spotlight children’s and YA literary-focused awards. Picture Book Month http://picturebookmonth.com/, established by several authors to celebrate picture books, is just one of the many November events on many national day calendars. It’s an example of the kind of days or celebrations we love sharing with our readers. Picture Book Month is celebrated in many schools and libraries each year and provides a fun additional way to spotlight and enhance literacy programs. This issue of CLCD’s Read & Shine is joining in honoring Picture Book Month by sharing interviews with two of the most important people in the creation of a picture book- the author and the illustrator. We are delighted that illustrator Vivian Mineker and author Carole Gerber are sharing their experiences in picture book creation.

It takes guts to start an initiative like Picture Book Month. Those who created this special celebration and those who support it cherish literature as much as we at CLCD do. Thank you to you all! It takes guts to create picture books in ways that children will understand and appreciate. Thank you to all the amazing children and YA authors and illustrators!
