Cows in Storytime – Dairy Parade 2017
The first Tuesday in June is a local holiday in my hometown. Every June our county’s finest come out for the annual Dairy Parade highlighting our local businesses, community organizations, marching bands, and, of course, the local dairy industry complete with a Dairy Princess. The Dairy Parade has been a mainstay in my life, first as a child loving the free chocolate milk, then as a teenager hijacking my way into the procession, then as a professional marching for the public library, and now as a mom sharing the tradition with my own children. Unfortunately, like most years, the first Tuesday of June also seems to be the rainiest, stormiest, or hottest day. I don’t remember a year where it didn’t pour, threaten a tornado, or turn out to be a scorcher. This year it was the rain that kept us home but the following cow themed picture books helped us to celebrate while it rained on our parade. Enjoy these award winning picture books and plan a cow themed storytime around them.
