Read For The Fun of It — Teen Read Week 2016

001

Starting in 1998, the Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA), started Teen Read Week to encourage teens to be regular readers and library users.  It is one of those weeks that I have mixed feelings about.  Just like its great to have Women’s History Month, a week dedicated to encouraging teens to be regular readers is also great but similar to my belief that we should also celebrate Women’s History, Black History, etc.  as librarians we should always be encouraging teens to be regular readers and library users, it’s kind of our job.  Anyways, I looked back over the past ten years at YALSA’s Teens’ Top Ten lists nominated and voted on by teens to pick out some of my favorites to share with you, one from each year.  For 2016’s list check out YALSA’s website sometime next week.
